Today should have been a relatively mild day.........Get up, drive to Boston to help Angela pick up the U-Haul trailer, go back to her apartment and pack...........No big deal..............RIGHT!
I've been trying to sell one of my motorcycles for a few weeks now. On Sunday a fellow from Cambridge came down and looked at it and said he was very interested. He called me last night and wanted to pick it up today. I explained that I needed to be in Boston, so I could simply bring it to him. My son-in-law, Michael, came over at 9am to help me load it into the pick-up truck. No problem there. I drive up to Boston, go with Angie to get the trailer, back to her apartment. I explain to her that I'm going to Cambridge to deliver the motorcycle and I'll be back within the hour. I go to the new owners house and proceed to unload the bike. By the grace of God we didn't drop it right there in the street! But I got it out of the truck and onto terra firma and a check was passed, papers signed, and away I go.
But wait, my DIESEL truck needs fuel. I see a Hess station up ahead that has Diesel on the sign. I pull in and proceed to the Green pump, because every diesel station I go to has green pumps for diesel. BUT NOT HESS! I proceed to pump 19 gal of REGULAR GAS into my diesel tank before I realize the mistake. What a feak'n disaster.
So I pull the truck to the side, walk two blocks to a hardware store, but every red gas can they have (2 five gallon and a 6 gallon), a piece of hose and a piece of stiff wire. Back to the gas station I attach the hose to the end of the wire so I can snake it down the filler pipe and reach the gas. I then proceed to siphon out 19 gallons of gas/diesel mix..............IT TOOK 3 FREK'N HOURS!
I had to drive the truck up onto a curb to get the fuel to the rear of the tank. Dozens of folks stopped and offered opinions on my plight. Thank God I didn't drive off with gas getting to the engine. This would have resulted in a $5000 repair bill for high pressure pump, injectors, filters, etc.
Once all the fuel was out I filled the tank with 35 gallons of clean diesel fuel and the truck was none the worse for the experience.
So back to Angie's house and playing a game of Tetris to get the trailer packed. Everything fit great.
Back to my house for an early start tomorrow AM............
